Videos of Student Projects
On this page you will be able to look through some samples of projects that my students have made. I hope that they spark some ideas for you and may even encourage you to try a similar project in your own classroom. Please feel free to contact me regarding any of he projects you see here. I would love to discuss with you rubrics for grading these different projects as well as time frames for completion of these projects. Please know that you can tweak an of the projects you see to meet the needs of your classroom. You may want to try something out with your "best" class just to see how it goes, and then make the changes you need to in order to engage all of your students. I would appreciate it if you would leave some feedback so that I can know how things have gone in your class when you tried one of these ideas.

Video Book Reports
These book reports will cover more standards than the typical hand written book report. The students are able to express their understanding of the material in a manner that is student centered while using a medium that the students are familiar with. The students are assessed on the following standards:
•Write responses to literature that organize an insightful interpretation around several clear ideas, premises or images and support judgments with specific references to the original text, to other texts, authors, and to prior knowledge
•Use correct punctuation
•Use precise language, action verbs, sensory details, colorful modifiers, and style as appropriate to audience and purpose •Use available technology to compose text
•Maintain the use of appropriate verb tense
•Deliver formal and informal descriptive presentations that convey relevant information and descriptive details
•Use organizational strategies (e.g. notes and outlines) to plan writing
•Use appropriate visual materials (e.g. diagrams, charts, illustrations) and available technology
•Adjust volume, phrasing, enunciation, voice modulation and inflection to stress important ideas and impact audience response
•Independently read books for various purposes (e.g. for enjoyment, for literary experience, to gain information or to perform a task). •Produce informal writings for various purposes
•Write informational essays or reports that –Provide a clear and accurate perspective on the subject –Create an organizing structure appropriate to the purpose, audience, and context –Support the main idea with facts, details, examples, and explanations from sources
The students love to create this type of book report. Remember, because you are addressing so many more standards, the students do not have to complete this assignment in one class period. You can give the students more time to complete this project. I gave my students roughly 1 1/2 to 2 weeks. My students used Windows Movie Maker to complete this project.

Lord of the Flies
The Tale of Despeeaux
Childhood's End
Notice how the music that was selected by the student draws you into the story. In a written report, you would not get to assess the students full understanding of the novel.
