This page contains pictures of student projects. My hope is that it will spark an idea for you or encourage you to try it out for yourself. If you have any questions about the projects you see below, please feel free to e-mail me. I would love it if you would share what it is you are having your students do in your classroom. I subscribe to the B.A.S.E. theory (Borrow And Steal Everything). Feel free to take the ideas that you find here and tweak them to fit your own needs within your classroom.
The Year of the Hangman
The novel, The Year of the Hangman, by Gary Blackwood is a great novel. It is told from the perspective of "If the British had won the revolutionary War". If you would like to purchase this novel study, go to the Teacher2Teacher Store. It is an amazing book.
Dressed to Impress
I came to class dressed as Gandalf the Grey. We were beginning our unit on Fantasy writing. I walked around the room and the students had to describe me in great detail. If they were going to describe worlds that no one had ever been to, then they needed practice at describing something so that the reader could picture it exactly how they hoped they would. Students don't forget this type of lesson. I used the same mask, beard, and wig when I did a lesson on perspective. I came to class as though I was Grumpy the dwarf. I told the tale of Snow White from my perspective. It was AWESOME!!!!
Novel Study: The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
Author study that gets kids reading
The tri-fold boards below are from a unit that was an author study. In this author study the students were required to choose and author that they were interested in. They had to read three books by the same author, but the books could not be from the same series. This unit is available for purchase in the "Teacher2Teacher Store".
