Mr. Dan Jones
Welcome to Ideas for Teachers, a site dedicated to helping teachers become more creative. I am thrilled to be sharing with you some ideas of what may make your classroom a place where students are challenged outside of the normal read-take notes-study-take a test format. My hope is that you take away some ideas that you can make your own. These ideas are designed to challenge your students to become critical thinkers who begin to develop their own thoughts instead of just what the text book tells them. I will show you how to get your students to actually engage with the material you are covering. And finally, I will ask that you share with me what it is that you are doing in your classroom. Feel free to send me articles, comments, and pictures of what you are doing. Please note that I am NOT an expert, but merely a passionate teacher who thinks that we all can be doing better and should be striving to do better. I am always looking for a new idea that I can steal from one teacher and then share it with other teachers. We always learn from our mistakes, and that is how we grow. I have done a lot of growing over my six years of teaching experience. So feel free to try something. Don't be afraid of an idea not working with your students. If it doesn't work, change it to better meet the needs of your students. In education, there is not a one size fits all lesson or philosophy.
